octave-symbolic software package provides symbolic package for Octave, you can install in your Ubuntu 14.04 LTS (Trusty Tahr) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install octave-symbolic
octave-symbolic is installed in your system.
Make ensure the octave-symbolic package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep octave-symbolic *
You will get with octave-symbolic package name, version, architecture and description in a table
